Victory for Oakdale residents as roads adopted at last

After an 8 year campaign from local Councillors, the roads of the Oakdale Estate in Fernhurst ward were finally adopted by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

Local Councillor Denise Gee explained:

“There were a number of issues; we had trouble with United Utilities taking responsibility for the local sewers, combined with one of the builders going bankrupt, which made something that should have been relatively straightforward, really difficult. I’m so glad that at long last we’ve succeeded. “

Final works were completed last month, and the Council have confirmed that the highways within the Oakdale (Cravens Farm) Estate Residential Development, located off Bolton Road, Blackburn were adopted as of December 13th 2012.

 Fernhurst Councillor Jacquie Slater commented:

“This is really good news for local residents. It means that they will now get full council services including gritting, road sweeping and streetlight repairs.”

Local MP, Jake Berry paid tribute to the hard work by all three local Councillors:

“This has been an ongoing problem since the estate was built, I would like to put on record my thanks to the local councillors, Denise Gee, Jacquie Slater & John Slater who have worked together with local residents and the Council to finally get these roads adopted. Well done!”
