Jake Berry MP has welcomed today’s launch of a new bus service linking the rural communities of Edgworth, Chapeltown and Crowthorn to Bury and Bolton.
The new 16-seat wheelchair-accessible bus run by Travel Assist was launched after Jake, Councillors Colin and Jean Rigby and local villagers launched a campaign to save the Edgworth-Bolton bus service.
The campaign saw 700 people signing a petition, hundreds of leaflets and posters delivered and displayed and a survey of the entire village.
“I’m thrilled that Travel Assist were able to step in and not only provide a better service to Bolton but also a brand new bus to Bury.
“Thank you to everyone who helped with the campaign – whether you signed the petition, filled in the survey, put up a poster or helped deliver leaflets, it was all worth it.”
Councillor Colin Rigby said:
“This is fantastic news for the village.
“Not only have we restored a direct link to Bolton, but we’ve got a brand new bus route to Bury as well.”
The new bus services launched on Monday 6 January. The TA01 service (Darwen-Edgworth-Bolton) will run on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and TA02 (Darwen-Edgworth-Bury) will run on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
A public meeting will take place at the Barlow Institute on Thursday 9 January at 2pm and 7.30pm.
