MP calls for council to lower Bank Street business rates

Jake Berry MP is backing Bank Street traders and calling for Rossendale Borough Council to use their new powers to reduce business rates.

In a letter to leader Alyson Barnes, which was also signed by Bank Street traders, Jake has urged the Council to use its new powers under the Localism Act to reduce rates for businesses affected by the United Utilities roadworks.

Jake said:

“The traders on Bank Street are doing a fantastic job coping with all the upheaval.

“However, it would be great if the council could give them a helping hand during this difficult time.”

The Localism Act 2011 gives local councils the power to vary business rates at their discretion.
